Additional Information
Peripheral blood, saliva, and buccal samples (or DNA extracted from these tissue types) is not accepted for patients with a current or past diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome, leukemia, or who have a history of bone marrow transplant.
For patients with a history of MDS, leukemia or bone marrow transplant, fibroblast culture (2 T25 flasks) or a skin biopsy may be sent for testing instead.
Our panels cannot be performed on DNA extracted directly from a skin biopsy; fibroblast cell culture must be performed prior to DNA extraction and molecular testing. Fibroblast cell culture is available for an additional charge at our laboratory.
Please note, fibroblast cell culture typically takes 2-3 weeks. If sending a skin biopsy to us for testing, please note this adds 2-3 weeks to the advertised turnaround time of the molecular test ordered.
Skin biopsy samples should be shipped overnight at room temperature in a sterile container, in either media containing fetal bovine serum (preferred) or sterile saline.
Please note, we do not accept Saturday deliveries, so skin biopsy samples should be collected and shipped Monday-Thursday only.
