Epilepsy refers to a group of disorders that are characterized by repeated seizures. These seizures can affect individuals of all ages, and can have a variable impact on a person’s health. While many causes of epilepsy are unknown, there are several hereditary causes which can be determined through genetic testing.

As the genetic etiology of epilepsy significantly varies, the University of Chicago Genetic Services Laboratories offers a wide spectrum of genetic tests to identify these conditions.
