According to the American Medical Association, the New 2013 Molecular CPT Codes will go into effect January 1, 2013. These new codes will replace the old system for coding molecular pathology procedures known as “stacking codes” (83890 – 83914), which focus on methodology rather than specific analytes. We are currently in the process of mapping our old codes to the New 2013 Molecular CPT codes and will make this information available to all clients through our website in the near future.
Currently, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have not finalized their payment determinations for the new tests for 2013. They are deliberating on the placement of the molecular codes (Clinical Lab Fee Schedule vs. Physician’s Fee Schedule). If they go on the Clinical Lab Fee Schedule, payment will be determined by the gap fill process. The final payment determinations, however, will be posted in November and will go into effect in January. Even though payment determinations have not been finalized by the CMS, we are still making preparations for the implementation of these new 2013 molecular pathology codes.
We thank you for your patience during this time.
